My Swiss perspective

Just stumbled upon the thread because an american friend of mine would like to live and work in Switzerland.
I am Swiss and have lived here most of my life, and I'm very happy with the living quality, cultural density (eg Zurich is amazingly diverse for a city of its size) etc.
However, I agree fully with everyone's discontent about the current residence permit laws. I am against all that protectionist bs anyway, but this is taking it miles too far.
Sadly, the right wing party is quite powerful these days and if everything went according to their wishes, we'd have walls all around Switzerland and would let no one in. I'm still hoping that in time we'll stop the bilateral way and join the EU fully. Maybe then, the residence laws will change as well and hopefully give a fair chance of working here to eu and non-eu citizens alike.Tom 29 jul 2008, 04:45 - Denunciar
