New Swiss law against foreigners

  • Now, there is a new regulation preventing people from outside Europe to work in Switzerland. If you are an EU citizen, you can work and live freely in Switzerland. But if you are not from Europe, the employer has to prove to the Swiss government that you are highly skilled by having your employer advertise the position in Europe for a few years and prove he could not find someone else from Switzerland OR the 25 countries of the European Union, before he can think about hiring you. And THEN he can apply to hire you. No other country in Europe has such draconian laws to hire people from outside europe. Honestly, would you want to go through such a procedure just to live in an overpriced, expensive country? i don't think so. Anyway Switzerland is not European, does not have the culture of Europe, and the Swiss economy just consists of banks and cheese/chocolate/watch makers. Any other country in Europe is WAY better than switzerland to live, work, and settle. Why would you want to work in a country that does not think they need or want you?

  • The Swiss are closed-minded and racist

Ther funny thing is that the employer must prove to the authorities in Switzerland that he DID advertise the position and search for another Swiss person before hiring a foreigner. In other words he can't just pretend that you're highly skilled and that you're qualified for the job, he has to show that he searched for a European first. That is pretty sad.

  • settle in other countries

Ever heard of a threat coming from Swiss bottom?
Ever thought of protection of own labour market?
Ever thought of such problems in your own country?
Ever thought of staying in your own country than?
Do you hire a painter if you can paint your house yourself?
Do you wash your own car?
Why buying a new loaf of bread while yours is still fresh?
Why you care about Swiss policy, while your own country's policy isn't even conclusive?
Why not let the Swiss make their own policy, that is exactly what you expect from others.
If you don't like Swiss policy, align to your own countries problems than.
If you don't like what is on channel 2 , switch to channel 3, don't you already??

  • a small hurrah

I also think that if you don't like another country, stay in your own.
If your's is so great why do you want to move to Switzerland anyway.
If you stay home and sort out the problems in your own country first, when we want to come and work there you can have a reciprical arrangement.

  • My Swiss perspective

Just stumbled upon the thread because an american friend of mine would like to live and work in Switzerland.
I am Swiss and have lived here most of my life, and I'm very happy with the living quality, cultural density (eg Zurich is amazingly diverse for a city of its size) etc.
However, I agree fully with everyone's discontent about the current residence permit laws. I am against all that protectionist bs anyway, but this is taking it miles too far.
Sadly, the right wing party is quite powerful these days and if everything went according to their wishes, we'd have walls all around Switzerland and would let no one in. I'm still hoping that in time we'll stop the bilateral way and join the EU fully. Maybe then, the residence laws will change as well and hopefully give a fair chance of working here to eu and non-eu citizens alike.

  • suiza!

  • nope

Switzerland is the suckiest place in Europe to search for a job, the only thing switzerland has is industries in banking, finance, and service (hotels and that kind of bullshit). Plus the Swiss job market is overprotectionist and you can't work there if you don't come from the EU. If you want real industries where people (engineers and scientists) actually make, produce, and export stuff, go to another country in Europe.

  • My Two Cents:

My mother is swiss and even with that, when I went to the Swiss Embassy to enquire on the possibility of my applying for a passport, it seems I am unable to join their happy tea-party. Never mind then.
