Moving cats from New Zealand to Kuwait
-
Moving cats from NZ to Kuwait and our experience in July 2009. To export animals from NZ requires an export certificate to be issued by NZ MAF. This certificate can only be issued when the country the animals are going to has an agreement with NZ MAF (called an OMAR) on the technical details the animals must meet. Kuwait has no (or we have not found it) details sufficient for NZ MAF to write the OMAR. So what this means is that you cannot export animals directly to Kuwait from NZ. We then had to select another place in the Middle East as an importer and we selected Bahrain as our destination. This was after researching Dubai (very very expensive import and export fees) and Abu Dhabi, less expensive than Dubai but Bahrain (Dr Nonie) has reasonable fees. This lack of an OMAR between NZ and Kuwait has added about NZD$2000 to the cost of shipping our two cats. Hope this of help to anyone contemplating moving animals to Kuwait from NZ.
