still a depressing discussion on a very very low level
Brazil@ The mentality is totally different, but I think that most germans like Brazil, they consider it as an example of easy life style, beach and dance culture. Yes this is a very small view ...
But don´t praise your country only ... don´t deny the corruption, the abjective poverty in some slums and rural areas, the drug- wars, the discrimination of native indians and the power of the landowners
Americans@
Yes deep philosophical discussions about life, social models, religion or like that face many walls in germany, beause there are many taboos (religious issues like the conception of a law from god, the role of man and women in a society, conspirations, zionism and others).
If you break such taboos, you´re considered an outsider, while they consider themselves open- minded. Yes it sometimes hurts!
But don´t tell me that the american people in general are deep thinkers. Everyone who lived in america like the friendy, polite people there, the optimism and that you can deal with them in an easy way, but is surprised by the ignorance of many people in america. They only know the surface, if you talk about capitalism, socialism, the history of the european colonialism, the land occupation of the native indians and so on.
SO don´t blame others if you aren´t a lightening example too!!!
Many comments in this forum can´t convince me of the opposite
I had the deepest and most open discussion in syria, sometimes even a man who can´t read and write can talk with you about many interesting things. Much less taboos there ... In a coutry that is considered as depressed by dictatorship, an enemy of the free world and what tells us the western propaganda more ...TypicalGerman 22 Mar 2009, 10:47 - Zgłoś nadużycie -

Ignorance of Instructor
My husband and I have been here for almost 2 months and we moved here for his job. We love Germany. I visited him last year while he was here for work for three months and we couldn't get enough of this place, the history, the beautiful scenery, the food (both german and turkish) and then the offer came for the transfer and we were thrilled.
I felt the same way until recently. I am taking a German language class right now and on two difference instances I've been offended and insulted by comments made by my instructor. The first comment was "All killers and murders come from America". This was brought up during a discussion about the shooting in Winneden. I was confused and asked her to repeat herself (I thought maybe she got her English twisted), nope, she repeated the same comment. I said, no, this isn't true that America does have murders and killers just like all countries but "killers & murders" don't come from America. America is built up many nationalities from various countries. I would never come here and say such a thing so opening like there isn't anything wrong with this. Horrible.
Then, today...apparently all America's are fat. I have a problem with the "all" Americans are fat. This just isn't true at all. Yes, we do have overweight people, we have medium people, and we have slim people. We do have fast food but we also have Whole Foods and people who attend Gyms and work out daily. We come from Chicago where at a number of times throughout the day you will always see people running, down the street, by the lake, eating at healthy fast food places. Do we have McDonalds, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, of course...but we also have Pockets, Salad Spinners, and even better, Whole Foods ( inside the grocery store you can eat from the healthy hot buffet and salad bar".
Seriously, why can't we stop the stereotypes? I friends from various countries that lived in Chicago and never once would I stereotype their country and their people or themselves personally.
Can we stop the ignorance? It is possible.Veronica 25 Mar 2009, 06:40 - Zgłoś nadużycie -

If you are going to classes at a goethe-institute that is the sort of behaviour you can expect from teachers. I learnt at a foreign goethe-institute for a while and had the same experience of paranoia in relation to the non-german host culture. Some of it is becasue language teachers in general are not very bright or educated, but also germans are selling their culture when they teach german much more than english teachers are selling theirs. I think some germans realise they don't have much to sell after a while other than that they are not guilty for the war, which is a basic premise of german culture at the moment. The usual way for many germans to express that is to find as many bad things as possible about other countries. In particular, their great role model that they have a subordinate love-hate relationsnhip woth - america - only has a negative influence on the world (I think surveys regularly show about 3/4 of germans think that). Who knows what germans would be like if they could drag themselves out of their guilty hole, I have met some. But mostly germans think life is about either winning or losing, and they think everyone else does as well.

@ Veronica
I'm really sorry that you have such an ignorant instructor in your language class. If I were you'd stop going to the class and ask to get my money back and say that she said insults to you because of your nationality.
If she had said things like that to someone from Afghanistan for example she would get fired but to generalize about Americans seems ok to some people. In my opinion it's a double standard. Stereotypes are always bad also if they are directed against Americans or Germans.
I have lived in the US and I know that many Americans are very educated and polite people and that you have beautiful cities with a lot of museums and culture and also good food.
I wonder how the instructor had could use school shooting in Winenden as an argument that Americans were "bad". The tragedy in Winenden showed that Germany has the same problems with school shootings.
I also wish that some day we can live in a world without stereotypes and prejudices. But reading this forum makes it seem like that day is still far away. Like there is this Brazilian troll who writes hateful things under various names.fight ignorance ! 27 Mar 2009, 09:38 - Zgłoś nadużycie -

I have nothing to add to any of these arguements about any countries, good or bad points. I am australian. I recently travelled with a young german lady who came to holiday here for a year. We travelled together for approx 6months. She has now gone home (germany) and we talk every couple of days or so and chat. I have become very attracted to her and would follow her anywhere. I am asking for honest advice on what would be the best way to go about this and would it be easy for me to find a job if we were together in germany or switzerland? I have no Trade. Please e-mail to [email removed] only if you can provide me with honest advice please.

It´s funny that an Isreali is calling Germans nazis, without thinking about the fact that the new Israel government is extremely right and some of them want to bannish Arabian.

It´s very sad that much guys in this world are knowing the Germans only as cold, people- killing nazis. Why they are forgetting for example that Preußen (Prussia) was one of the most forward-looking countries? Fridrich II, king of Prussia, said once:
"In meinem Land kann jeder nach seiner Fasson selig werden"
"In my country it´s everyone allowed to become blessedly after his form"
This was much more democtratic than in any other country around the earth.Hallo 31 Mar 2009, 01:55 - Zgłoś nadużycie -

GAG, you really want to know it?
Or is it just shouting in the woods, as loud as you can, to distract you from your obviously boring life? What makes you hate so much eh? Any serious arguments? Because this is silly and boring.
So, well knowing, this will bring up even more shouts: My grandfathers have been in war, sent out to leave their families, perhaps Nazis as you tell, perhaps just the food for the upper ones...actually the grandmothers didn't tell alot later on, except the grandpa from mothers side, who has been in russian prison for two years, the other one died from cancer soon after.
The towns here have been bombing down, grandma's families suffering from hunger for long times, reparations paid to the glorious winners up to the limits. Since i can think, we have been told never to repeat this again, we are the ones to blame for what our ancestors did, we are the ones to be shouted at. I am 41 years old and try to educate my son to be peaceful with others.
Does that make me a Nazi then? Yes?
Actually. In the area over here a lot of Turkish people run around. They are allowed to call us stinking because of having bacon for dinner in times, they are allowed to spit in front of our churches because they are bad. I ignore this, because it's the same behaviour that is to blame against us these days.
Does this make me a Nazi? Yes?
Surely it does, because it's my ancestors "being some".
So, how about you, GAG? Are you American? Are you proud about? Why are you allowed to be proud then? Are none of your ancestors of those who had runned Slaves and beat them to dead? Are you a family member of those to run over Iraq to destroy a country just because of the oil?
Can you give me arguments without just shouting around, GAG?

low-level debates..
here's one: after 2 generations living in germany, the german govt decided (2004) that turks could become citizens, although they had to give up their turkish passports. At about the same time a huge public debate was launched about "why turks are not integrated in german society, they don't speak german for example, oh dear those turks, what is wrong with them." But why should anyone "integrate" in a country where they only have a temporary visa? Can they vote? No. So they can't get politically organised. No other western country would seriously have a flawed public discussion like this. Of course the reason for this pathetic debate is not that germans or the german media are ignorant. Many germans and turks would happily say that the reason is that germans are racist, they don't want turks here. But the likely real reason is even more pathetic, straight of some billig-discountladen of the personality: envy. Look! those damn turks have passports just like us! That can't be right! Who do they think tbey are!

First to start "It's not me, I'm not guilty!"
When and where did i say this, eh? Please don't put me words i haven't said.
What i have said is exactly this: it's a bit more complex than this, isn't it?
Talking about turkish people in Germany. We could fill books with that, but i can just give a few things because i have to care for work and son too. And i am no politician! I know that a turkish woman has been the first council administrator in my old home town. I have to admit though that Mr. Özdemir is the only politician so far i know in public. The integration debate to me is polarized, because "theory and praxis" drift apart alot. You talk about not being able to integrate and the same way it's the politics slowing you down. In my opinion it's the cat biting itself in this, isn't it?
When i gave those two points of incident it was to put up that things like these happen, but i WOULDN'T shout about it usually, nor was it a complaint against turkish people. The explanation and apologize to Cem has been deleted unfortunately. It is something that happens, but still people should work about being good with each other.
So, when i see turkish people over here i AM split, of course, because some of them behaving strange, especially against us women, so how could i not feel bad then in times? But it's of course not in general. And very sure also the other way round. I find it easier to talk to "integrated", but also often i have the feel that the interest in integration is not very high. (see abovementioned)
How comes, for example, that women very often still are kept at home? In school it brings up big problems, when children start writing and reading, because they are not used enough to german. Now here comes the 2nd class thinking in play: We need a good education for our children if we don't want to go down totally, and turkish people should be interested in this too.
As mentioned, the kindergarten-friend of my son was turkish, we had the fortune to be with his parents in time and even they tell me, that there are good and strange turkish people as here are good and bad german people.
A former neighbour was russian and sometimes telling me about her sorrows here to get along, another neighbour is italian and i could heart her all day, a good friend in the net is turkish and i like a good conversation in times. He would step here asking me: Anja, now WHAT have you started there? and then laugh about me. Certainly.
I AM living in a small world, trying to be good and am shocked when being shouted without a reason i could find. Because actually please: WHAT EXACTLY are you blaming ME for?
What really pisses me off in the meantime. I have stepped in here for finding job information for my friend to be here, reading discussions like these. No matter when they are serious, but here it's just bashing around....
I mean, i could easily complain about the older ones in our office too. Always trying to fool us a little, simply because they're longer there - even when we are more organized and a fresh knowledge should be a winning thing, too ...pretty discriminating in times, what do you guess?
Or those fast going drivers on the motorway here (Autobahn of course is forbidden...for reasons). Well they like hassling me around, just because i don't do as fast as they do.... shouldn't i feel discriminated then??
And hell...yes...the goddamn fucking so-called Nordic Walkers with their sticks...stuffing the way with two people...and then, expecting a single jogger to just jump away from them...
Now THAT is fucking racist, isn't it?
THAT. IS. NOT. MINE.
It's tiring. It doesn't make much sense. And going on like that you won't find me discussing here.

Sure.scN Anja 03 Kwi 2009, 02:39 - Zgłoś nadużycie -
laughing foreigner
So, when i see turkish people over here i AM split sometimes, some of them in times ARE behaving like german haters in return and women are sometimes not much respected as it seems (tell me, if it is different in your eyes). But it's of course NOT in general. And very sure also the other way round. I find it easier to talk to "integrated", but also often i have the feel that the interest in integration is not very high. (see abovementioned)
But i would never go and say: "You! Integrate yourself! Immediately."
That would be strange then, wouldn't it?scN Anja 03 Kwi 2009, 02:44 - Zgłoś nadużycie -

@scN Anja
I give you a good advise-----
PLEASE SPEND YOUR NEXT HOLIDAY IN TURKEY
A trip to Istanbul does not cost that much.
Then you will understand, that those Turks living in Germany mainly belong to the "Unterschicht".
They came from anatolian villages to Germany to do jobs, which are done by low-educated people.
That is the reason why they act like anatolian farmers 40 years ago.
You can not compare middle-class or upper-class Turks to them.
If Germany would have wanted more educated immigrants, there would be no immigration-problem.
But Germany needed workers for factories not high educated people.Cem Dönmez 03 Kwi 2009, 06:36 - Zgłoś nadużycie -
scn anja, do you miss hitler to set the turk problem?
germany culture is evil.the only thing that germans can do to human kind is desapeir of earth. germans have too many sins that they must bring blacks, arabs and turks to germany, and all german must to marry with these imigrants.the only solution to germany besides mass suicide is mixegenation with other races.
it is repugnant to see that are still nazis like this scn anja.it is very sad!"i am split when i see a turk"! gosh! you germans are wrong! you are evil! you deserve to be shouted in the streets, because you are guilty!you are nothing more than barbarians.civilization in germany is only tecnology, but no moral values!germany is a country that has no civilized moral!you are still the cannibals that you were in antiguity, but with high tech stuff!
the better thing to do would be change germany in a agrarian country, and change germans in slaves.happy foreigner 03 Kwi 2009, 06:49 - Zgłoś nadużycie -
yes.
Cem? Thanks for explaining. Whenever time and money are given, i might follow your advice.
The other fake: Please go home and hassle your mom.
From my part: i will go for now, into the woods with my lovely friend, and hug some trees and make some love...
Returning here, we still would find some bashing around....and this is not what i was here for...
Thanks for a nice conversation, and the best to you.scN Anja 03 Kwi 2009, 07:53 - Zgłoś nadużycie
