Since international students in the Czech Republic study under the same conditions as Czech citizens, they usually do not have to pay tuition fees, unless they do not want to study in Czech. Nevertheless there are other expenses, such as housing, living, textbooks etc. To cover these costs there are many scholarships available, provided by universities, the State or the EU.
The conditions that apply for these scholarships vary greatly, with each scholarship focusing on different aspects of the studies. Many scholarships are granted for excellent study or scientific results. In addition there are programs supporting students in case of very hard social circumstances. Some basic support is available for almost every student.
If you are granted a scholarship which is offered by the Czech Republic the State will also take care of your health insurance. It is important to find out whether or not you will be provided health care before you come to the Czech Republic.
A list of scholarships on the basis of bilateral agreements with the Czech Republic can be found at the website of the Academic Information Agency . Information on scholarships especially for international students can be found at ec.europa.eu .
