New Zealander wanting to get into Switzerland

  • I am a new zealander with a swiss father looking for residence in switzerland.I was originally promised that it was a simple affair, and the process was already in action for a month or so before i left to stay with my relatives in switzerland. Now,it has been nearly 4 months since i left NZ,and im staying with my mums parents in Belgium,as my swiss temporary visa has run out.
We discovered i could not get a passport automatically,as my parents were not married when i was born, but surely i can get a work permit?I have an employer (my cousin), but i contacted both the swiss embassy in nz and the Police for Foreigners in switzerland, and was basically given completely contradicting information.
The embassy told me the passport wouldn't be possible, and that i could apply for a work permit.
The Police for Foreigners told me that being from NZ i could not get a work permit, but that since i had a swiss father i should apply for a passport...Any help would be greatly appreciated,as i'm only 18 and a little out of my depth here, and i have to decide whether its worth waiting in Belgium or cutting my losses and heading back to New Zealand. Thanks in advance,Nemo Burkhard.

  • I hate the Swiss

Switzerland is a shitty country, why would you want to move here? New Zealand is infinitely better than this dump. A lot of foreigners also don't like it as well and the Swiss are trying to pass new laws to prohibit or make it impossible for non-EU foreigners to live here.

Also the administration in Switzerland is really bad, they do not know anything and the Embassy gives contradicting information from the people in Bern, and they wait so long just to treat your application, until it's too late. The Swiss are anti-social and do not want to communicate anything. This is a land of stupid assholes who only became rich and successful because everyone puts their money in the banks here.

Oh, thank you, I'm Swiss... Actually I'm in the army for 6 months in Kosovo to help for the reconstruction of this country. I'm not anti-social.

Before I was in the army, my salary was 2200 euros. I'm not rich. And I dont want to be rich.

Sorry, i'm sure that I'm not perfect but I'm not an asshole.

    And you?

I hate the Swiss. That smug, yet thoroughly undeserved attitude. Their men are all sissies and their women are uglier than modern art masterpieces. So, how do you disappoint a Swiss person? You shit where he/she can't find it.

here are the things: of course where ever you move to the new place you will always find the things are working differently than where you come from and these are of course we found not easy most of the time.

I was living in Switzerland for 3 years before, and I think this place just beautiful, high quality of life, the lowest income it's about CHF4000 to 3500 that's pretty high and the life cost is not more expensive than Uk it's really the place to work and save money.

I'm sorry to hear YUCK experience, but I have totally difference opinion about the people I think they are very well organize.

Right. If you have a good job pays well, Switzerland could be good for saving some money but the most of the business opportunities and cultural institutions are extremely limited in this country.Because they absolutely do not want to put all those horrible taboos from their old mentality (middle age times) but they are working very hard for associating this miserable horrible thing with modern laws with an excellent persistant/stubborn and scientific attitude.Of course it is not a Mecca but too primitive for being considered as a western country.Actually the feeling of living in Switzerland is like living in Moscow but not Paris or Los Angeles. So it is not a real western country but rich, safe???? and modern.Actually this is the most commun problem of all middle-east european lands. In the history, they were the biggest exterminators of the followers of Socinus and later they burnt Servetus in Geneva but you do not know about what the worst is...
THEY ARE PRACTICING EXACTLY THE SAME THING TODAY BUT THEY USE VERY MODERN METHODS FOR DOING IT WITHOUT HURTING THE BODIES OF THEIR VICTIMS DIRECTLY.MAYBE NOBODY ORGANISES THOSE ACTIONS DIRECTLY BUT THEIR "MENTALITY+BEHAVIOUR" MACHINE ALONE IS AN EXCELLENT ENGINE FOR ELIMINATING THE INDIVIDUS WHO DO NOT WANT TO ACCEPT THE NEGATIVE PART OF SWISS MENTALITY.
So,you can come here for living and working like a robot and saving money but if you want to watch and hear a great jazz band on a friday night in a jazz club for appreciating the weekend holiday you will be disappointed.Because the jazz band will sound as a military orchester plays old german military marche music and you will pay a fortune for a glass of cheap/bad quality of whisky.
Unfortunaly you will be the witness of this misery in everywhere and every sector in this country again and again.
Do not lose your time here.It is extremely compressed society and you can not do anything for open their mind.It is impossible.Because they are educated and programmed mentally for not noticing that. There are some few swiss citizens are open minded and know all about this hard truth but you can not meet them.Because they do not go to the places where all others go.80 percent of them leave Switzerland for spending the rest of their life in another place where that killer problem is not present everywhere.
Welcome to Switzerland.A democratic village from middle age times.

  • Be fair!!

The level of discussion here is bloody awful. You have to be objective in dealing with the difficulties of being an alien. Think why you came to this country in the first place. obviously to work and try to establish a decent life. I came here 2 years ago from the UK because of my wife and I find it quite depressing at times. I do not think the Swiss are natural snobs. I just think that once you start employing foreigners you cannot help it but feeling superior. i.e. the Asians in the UK, the Turks in Germany and the North Africans in France...etc. This is, unfortunately, the nature of the beast.
The trouble with the Swiss is that they are very reserved due to the agricultural nature of their society. Due to the sudden influx of migrant workers to form a huge slice of their population, about 15% I think, they do feel quite threatened. Obviously they are benefiting from a global situation (Look at my tax statement and you'll get it). Their strategy however, to deal with the social aspect of their "migrant" society is forced integration. The Swiss are very good at imposing their culture, way of life, habits, order ..etc...
they are, however, incapable (rather unwilling) of absorbing the, perhaps, more sophisticated social input of the new comers. they want to keep it clean and Swiss. this will fail in the long term as it is against social evolution. No body, whether they like it or not, can benefit from a global situation but maintain social isolation. To the Swiss I say: Take my work, my taxes and teach my son Switzertutch but, please, give me some space to feel comfortable with my own way of life.
Be more objective on this site if you really want the Swiss ti listen.

  • Run, you fools!

The migrants are more than 20%. While these allegations about Swiss people being racists are quite common, I'm always quite surprised. I'm half Swiss - half english but don't look Swiss at all and have nevertheless never suffered from racism. Actually the funny thing is I have in fact suffered from racism but the racist guys were NOT swiss.

Another thing to mention is that switzerland is a patchwork of 3-4 completely different "subcountries" hating each others (actually 26 cantons but you can regroup them by language...). So anyway, the german Swiss tend to be more psychorigid while latin Swiss are more wanglers...

Another thing you need to know if you want to move to this country is that the swiss government loves to charge the people with its own work. As an example, in some places they randomly pick guys living around and force them to take care of guardianship for toxico dependants or these kind of guys. It's soooooo much easyer that having the social assistants doing their work.... And of course if they pick you, then you'll just have to find about 20 houres per month on your spare time to do that.

Not to mention the army. Swiss guys under 35 must waste one month per year in the army. We don't do anything in the army, but it's an obligation. You don't even imagine the problem it creates at work when you leave for a whole month. And this causes tension with non Swiss workers because of course, as for the same wage Swiss workers work for 11 month while foreigners work for 12 there's a clear problem here....

Oh, and if you like going in the pubs with friends you can forget it. The culture of pubs here is very different. Pubs here are only for two kind of people here. Teenagers trying to show and mid 40 alcoholics.

Conclusion: While I don't think you'll have problems with racism in switzerland, it is nevertheless a shitty country. You'll have a bloody hard and boring time if you move here. I, myself, would give everything I have to move to about anywhere in the commonwealth.

  • Why so jealous?

All the guys who said we swiss are just assholes 'n' rassists, didn't stay long enough in switzerland, to really know us!
I only hear your jealousy, about our high life standard...
But as the english guys already told you, we live a boring (work, learning, weekend, work, learning, weekend), robotic and almost sad life.
So, there is nothing to be jealous.
Don't get me wrong, we don't have a bad live, but we pay our price, for what we have...
